| James had a birthday a few days ago, and I COMPLETELY forgot. He mentioned it the day after ("I kind of depressed that I turned 31 yesterday...") to which I replied "Gasp! When! What! How?!?" and felt very bad about forgetting and not getting him a present. So I went out and got him and iPod which he seemed to like. I'm also practicing some photography. I've had the D90 for a month or two, and today I bought a 50mm f/1.8 lens (my usual is an 18-200 which is extremely big and heavy by comparison). So I'm going to practice some low-light outdoor nighttime shots, I do believe. | | |
| is finally over. I didn't get a bunch of stuff like last year. I did order a sleeping bag though, and I might get a suitcase. But that's about it. It was a really long week (plus) and now I'm home sick. I've been working too much lately and not resting enough... yesterday was my first day off in almost three months and I spent the whole day in bed. And I'm having to use a vacation day for being out today since I don't have any sick days left (never mind that I've worked every single weekend for the past couple of months - those don't count). Oh well. That's life I guess. At least I won't be working those kind of hours for THAT company anymore... it's one of those places that if you work hard, other people try to cut you down and make you look bad to the bosses, because they're afraid it makes it look like they're not working hard enough if they don't. Weird. I used to like my job. | | |
| Yay I finally got a camera!!! I've been wanting a real camera for a long time, but since Naomi's wedding when Matt let me use his camera (while he watched of course, to make sure I didn't drop it or do anything stupid) I knew I had to get a dSLR. Just the reaction of his camera to the touch of the shutter button. The quality of the picture, though lacking quality of composition (at least in my hands), still had clarity and depth and focus a cheap point-and-shoot just couldn't capture. And from that moment I knew one day I must have one of my own, a lesser model of course but a decent dSLR nontheless. And after a bit of research, I decided on the D80 instead of the D40, and Matt agreed that it was a great camera and in fact the model he first started with. Then about a year ago the D90 replaced the D80, with video capabilitilies, and reading all the rave reviews, which continued even after the inital "geeked-out new feature" reviews died down, and so I decided the D90 would be my camera. And after saving for a great long while, plus July coming up with three paychecks giving me a little extra cash, I finally bought one from Abe's of Maine (great place to buy a camera by the way, their prices are usually lower than most and their service is good too), and a pretty awesome piece of glass to go with it instead of the standard kit (18-200mm. It is huge. Several books recommended the size as a "best all around" and since I don't intend to collect lenses, I forked up the extra for the better lens and bypassed the kit all together). So I am excited. But have been really sick this weekend which sucks. Only taken a couple of pictures. I have a lot of learning on how to use the camera technically, plus how to be a good photographer and "see" a good picture. I'll never be as good as Matt (fortunately I can hire him when I need some really awesome pictures, which I'm hoping to do in a few weeks) but at least now I've got a camera to start shootin' up the LBC!!! Yay. | | |
| So Timmers is staying with me. It's pretty cool I guess. Mobut is here sometimes which is really good, otherwise I don't think I could handle my life. I've been tryinng to make money on treasure trooper and amazon, which is good I guess. I need a second job. I'm so broke. It's pretty cool to see Tim. It's awesome actually. Tim is a great guy. Okay dokee, I need to go to bed cuz I have to work tomorrow. Love you all and hope you're doing great! | | |
| James and I went to the Metallica concert last Wednesday night (the 17th). It was totally kick-ass. The Forum was packed - probably about 15 thousand people (close to capacity). We were sitting way in the back, the cheap tickets, but if I had the money that concert would have been worth the premium to sit in the front (or stand in the pit - even better). But at least we got to go and it was extremely cool. And I got a tee shirt (which someone spilled beer on as they slipped down the stairs - time for laundry!). Here's some pictures with my little point-and-shoot, only a few were even slightly focused:

And they had parts where fire came up out of the stage. That was super cool but my camera couldn't handle it. I'm supposed to be able to download the show when it becomes available, I think it will just be audio but I would be stoked if it was video too. And then Tim came to visit me over the weekend. That was pretty fun. We had In 'N' Out Burger, and rearranged my appartment so I could fit a small airbed on the floor for him, and generally just hung out. Nothing super exciting this weekend, so the next time he visits we'll have to do something a bit more exciting. So that's all the excitement I can handle for now, ~Marzipan | | |
